Owner and operator of RedSmith Genetics, Hatch Cummings Smith, Jr., or Cummings, the locals call him, was born and raised in the cattle business. A fifth generation cattle rancher, Hatch has always had a passion for the cattle industry. In the late 1990’s, he raised and sold registered Angus under his brand. He spends most of his free time outdoors - daily operations at the ranch, working cattle, hunting and fishing, and spending time with family.
Hatch graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Animal Science where he planned to continue on to veterinary school. After much consideration, he decided that ultimately, this was not the path for him. Hatch went on to become an embryo transfer specialist which consumes most of his day-to-day workload at the ranch. He serves on the American Tarentaise Association Board and is a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
RedSmith Genetics got its start in early 2018 and has grown substantially since its inception. As the operation continues to grow, one thing that will remain a top priority is keeping our clients number one. RedSmith Genetics is not a large corporation and enjoys creating lasting relationships with current and potential clients. With a passion for hard work, quality genetics, and making each client feel as if they are more than just a number, our goal is to create a partnership.
